Fire & Feast: Outdoor Cookery
Learn the art of open-fire cooking in a beautiful countryside setting
Join us for a day of outdoor cooking in our Dorset orchard, surrounded by trees, birdsong and the scent of woodsmoke. Using a fire bowl and traditional asado-style equipment, we’ll show you how to cook meat, fish & seasonal vegetables over open fire, working with heat, flame, and smoke to create deeply flavourful, simple dishes. We’ll also prepare vibrant sauces and sides: chimichurri, zesty dressings and bold seasonal salads, to complement your meal. Expect a relaxed day of good food, fresh air, and friendly chat. This demonstration-style cooking class is ideal for small groups (up to 8 people) and perfect for friends, families, or team get-togethers, or just book for yourself and meet some fellow fire-enthusiasts. No prior experience is needed, just a love of food and a willingness to get a little smoky. Alongside teaching, I also work privately as a chef for high-profile clients, keeping my cooking fresh, flavourful, and practical for home use. What you will learn: • Manage heat & flames for charcoal, woodfire & open-fire cooking • Grill meat, fish, and seasonal vegetables to maximise flavour • Prepare sauces and sides to complement flame-cooked dishes • Build timing & workflow for a relaxed al fresco meal • Take home recipes & a detailed plan to recreate the dishes You’ll learn how to make: • Smoky aubergine Caesar dip with flatbreads • Chargrilled ribeye with crispy brioche salad, rocket & grilled dates • Wood-fired fresh fish (seasonal) with herby salsa • Seasonal griddled vegetables with sesame-sage dressing • Ember-roasted butternut squash with pumpkin seed pesto What the experience feels like: Held in our orchard in Motcombe, Dorset, the class is unhurried and welcoming, with time to watch, taste, ask questions, then enjoy lunch together. More like spending time around the fire with friends than a formal class. Cancellation Policy
Bookings and cancellations for public classes and individuals: If you need to cancel or reschedule a booking you must do this by emailing us (by email to laura@laurapope.co.uk or via the ‘Contact’ page) at least 7 days before the date of your class and you will be given a new date or a full refund for the cooking class. We are sorry that we will be unable to refund or reschedule a cooking class with less than 7 days’ notice. Bookings and cancellations for private group events: In the event that you cancel your booking in full, our refund policy is as follows: • If you give us 6 weeks’ or more notice prior to the booking date, we will refund 100% of your payment. • If you give us less than 6 weeks’ notice and at least 4 or more weeks’ notice prior to the booking time, we will refund 50% of your payment. • If you give us less than 4 weeks’ notice we are unable to offer any refunds. For amending the date of bookings: • More than 21 days notice, no charge will apply. • Between 10 – 20 days, 25% of the full class price will be charged. • Between 4 – 9 days, 50% of the full class price will be charged. • 3 days or less, 100% of the full class price will be charged. You may request to increase the number of participants by contacting us by email or phone at least 2 weeks prior to the booking date, in which case we will do our best to accommodate you; however, any increase to the class size is entirely at our discretion. In the event that we agree to increase the number of participants, you must pay the additional cost per participant immediately. Final numbers and dietary requirements for your class must be confirmed no later than 2 weeks prior to the start time of the cookery class in order to give us enough time to pre-order the necessary ingredients, staff and planning.
